A Love of Creating
Continuing a series of things that I love. Which includes Books and Dance.
All the Things
I like to create things. Even if I then do nothing with them.
When younger this was mostly worlds, games, cakes, stories and maps for gaming
As time goes on I also take pleasure in making blog posts, random generators, paintings, sketches, e-books, solo games, my own code, music playlists and systems.
I think I noticed this most when I implemented a new habit of every work-day starting with an hour creating generators for chaosgen (free rpg tools site). I take great satisfaction in creating something each day and making progress to something larger.
Why of Making
There is a pleasure and satisfaction to creating things. In making things that others want to use.
The best is getting into a flow state when creating things. Like coding on something I'm loving to build, writing for my own RPG or painting something.
I'm also a fan of going back to things I've created and making them better. Not sure if that's creating or iterating or improving. It's probably all the same.
Then sometimes creation is about removing things. Not including everything but choosing what to leave out. Like editing or curating. I love deleting massive amounts of code!
I don't always know what to do with them when I've created them...
The Definition is Pretty Broad
I think creating can be applied to so many things. Some of it is also down to mindset and I hate hearing that people aren't creative. It's part of our humanity.
Crafts, gardening, cooking, creating a nice living environment, collections of books, a group of people. Probably parenthood as that looks like a long-term project!
And I think as we create more things it gets easier to create in everything else we do.
